Server Security Tips for Discord Servers

In this page, we will go over some security tips for Discord advertising servers. Server Security is one of the most important things in an advertising server since they are mostly targeted by server raiders. Here, we will go over role permissions, channel permissions, bots and auto-moderation.

Role Permissions

When it comes to role permissions, you need to be very careful. You have staff members that you trust in your server but they can raid your server at any moment if your roles are not set up correctly. You should never give administrative permissions to staff members. The only people that should have admin permissions in an advertising server is the server owners. With administrator permissions, someone can delete all your channels, roles, create webhooks and bypass most of the bots auto-moderation. Manage Server should not be given to staff members as well. When someone has manage server permissions, they can invite bots that can damage your server. Some servers have had all their members, channels and roles removed with bots before. Manage Webhooks should also never be given to staff members. With manage webhooks, people can easily grab one of your current webhooks or make a webhook to spam ping @everyone in your server. If they get an existing webhook, you will not be able to track who it was.

Channel Permissions

When setting up your channel permissions, you need to make sure non-staff members can’t see staff chats. For all the information or channels people can’t type in, make sure the manage message and manage channel permissions are disabled for everyone. If the manage messages permissions is not disabled, staff members will be able to delete the information in those channels and it can be a pain to set them back up.

Server Bots

When inviting and setting up bots in your server, make sure no bots have administrator permissions and permissions they do not need. The only bots that have administrator permissions in my server are Yag and Unbelievaboat. They are also my main moderation and logging bots. Only give bots the permissions the need because they can damage your server with the wrong permissions.

Auto-Moderation

In my opinion, auto-moderation is one of the most useful features a bot can have. They moderate specific stuff in your server without your staff having to. This does not mean your staff don’t need to do anything. The basic auto-moderation you should have in your server is invites, spam, mass mentions, etc. A lot of advertising server nowadays get raided with spam and mass mentions so those are very useful.
